Where To RV In Maine With Big Rigs- 8 Tips

RV in Maine- Part Of Our On The Road Series- East Coast

When we were headed to Acadia National Park in our RV, we needed an RV park that could accommodate our Newmar Mountain Aire Big Rig Class A RV. Here is what we learned about where to RV In Maine.

We also wanted an RV park that was close to Acadia and Bar Harbor. That’s how we found Timberland Acres RV Park whose motto is “No Rig TOO Big” and decided to investigate and book a site.

RV in Maine- Where is Timberland Acres RV Park Located?

The park is in Trenton Maine on Route 3, only 14 miles from Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park, and Mount Desert Island. This clean and well-maintained RV park is locally owned by Colton and Morgan Sanborn.

How Big Are The RV Sites At Timberland Acres?

The park has over 50 sites that are over 100 feet long! As our video below shows, we had plenty of room for our 44’ foot RV and tow vehicle. The sites are also wide enough to open awnings and set up picnic areas.

Are The RV Sites Level?

Yes, the gravel sites are wide, and level, and have picnic tables and fire rings. They don’t have concrete pads at the sites, but the sites are clean and not muddy or dirty. Campfire wood is available for purchase at the office.

Are The RV Sites Easy To Pull An RV Into?

Many RV parks have tight turns that are difficult to maneuver with big rigs or have overhanging trees that can scratch RV paint. We were pleased to find that Timberland has wide, paved roads with easy turns and no hanging trees.

Close to Lots of Shopping

Timberland is in the town of Ellsworth and there is lots of major stores there including grocery stores and large chain stores.

One of the staff told us about Acadia Provisions which is less than a mile from the park. This locally owned butcher shop and deli has fresh produce and specialty items. We picked up some great steaks there!

Would We Recommend Timberland Acres RV Park?

Yes, we would highly recommend Timberland Acres! Their tagline is “Where Friendly People Meet!” and we found that to be true of the owners, staff, and guests at the park.

Morgan (the owner) even shared a tip to help us avoid the lines to purchase tickets at Acadia. Go to the Ellsworth Chamber of Commerce right down the street from the park and purchase entry passes there! They are the same price as at the gate ($30 per vehicle for a 7-day pass) and we just drove through the gate rather than wait in the lines at the park entrance!

Can You Take Your RV Into Acadia National Park?

It depends on the size of your RV. We saw several Cruise America rentals there in the 24’-26’ range, but our RV would not be allowed in the park. There were several bridges with only an 11’ clearance! Plus, even though the roads are in great shape in the park, there are areas where there are switchbacks and it’s hard to maneuver anything much bigger than a passenger vehicle.
