Many of the apps are free, but we did have to purchase several of them and we’ll tell you which ones are worth buying and how much they cost. We’re including the user ratings and whether they are available for iPhones and Androids and including links to download them.

Tip: Use Family Sharing on Your Devices

What is Family Sharing?

If you haven’t already enabled Family Sharing on your mobile devices, you should! Family Sharing lets everyone in your family group (up to a total of 6) access all the apps, music, books and movies that other family members have already downloaded. So you only purchase or download them once. If you are not sure how to enable Family Sharing, I’ve included instructions at the bottom of this post. Just click on iPhone Family Sharing or Android Family Sharing and you can jump to that section.

RV Apps We Use The Most

Here’s our pick for the top RV apps that we use very often. Clicking on any of them will take you to the category they are sorted in, where you can read a detailed description of each app.

  • RV Traveler App- Everything related to RVs and RVing
  • Alexa Virtual Assistant
  • Dark SkyWeather
  • AnyList Grocery and Shopping List and Recipe Organizer
  • Amazon Shopping

3 Best Fuel Apps for RVing

Our Class A diesel RV burns a lot of fuel, so we are always looking for a way to save on fuel costs. These are the apps that work well for us. Pay attention to fuel rewards cards that are offered in the areas you travel, you can save money using them.

Pilot Flying J
Fuel Discounts

Even though these stations were originally primarily designed for truckers, there are also a lot of benefits for RVers. With over 750 locations across 44 states and 6 Canadian provinces, it’s pretty easy to find a Pilot Flying J station.

Some stations have RV fueling lanes, propane refills, and RV dump stations. The free app saves 3 cents per gallon on gas, and if you are a Good Sam member and get their RV Plus charge card you can save $.08 per gallon on diesel in the US and $.01 per liter in Canada. The RV Plus Card also offers discounts on propane and waste pumps.

The other benefit of getting their charge card is you don’t have to go inside to prepay for fuel, and the pump does not shut off at a preset amount. They offer a trip planner in the app so you can plan your fuel stops in advance. Several other benefits make this free app very worthwhile, even if you decide not to get their RV Plus Card.

The app is available for both iOS and Android.

Good Sam Club
Fuel Discounts

Good Sam partnered with Pilot Flying J to offer fuel and service discounts, so if you have a Good Sam membership just show your Good Sam card to get $.05 off the and $.08 off diesel in the US or $.01 off per liter in Canada.

These are the same fuel and service discounts as with the Pilot Flying J RV Plus Card, without the added convenience of no prepay or pump shutoffs.

At only $25 per year, Good Sam membership will pay for itself in fuel discounts alone.

5 RV Parks and Campground Reservations Apps

The Dyrt
Campground Reviews

This app shows thousands of campground reviews from users that have actually been there. It’s a great resource to help you find parks, check their reviews and book your site, all in one app. Their database has over 42,000 ranked campgrounds, although all of them may not be able to accommodate your size RV. The app is free and available for both iOS and Android and the reviews and pictures are helpful when picking sites.

The other cool thing about this app is that you can share your own reviews and win prizes.

Good Sam Camping App
Private Campground Reservations

This free app lists over 12,500 campgrounds, parks and attractions. You can search by city, state or province and it shows which parks offer Good Sam Club member discounts.

The RV park details include rates, Wi-Fi availability, site info, services, recreation, and park features.

The Trip Planner tool does require Club Membership but at only $25 per year with a $50 merchandise gift card included, it’s a good deal. You can click below to join.

The park reservation app is free and available for both iOS and Android. It has gotten some bad reviews but Good Sam is supposed to be working on updates. The one thing we noticed is not all parks are listed. I am not sure if they only those that pay to advertise with them but just be aware there may be other parks available in the areas you want to visit.

Reserve America Camping (RA Camping)
State Park Campsite Reservations

This is the site that you use to book state park camping sites for almost all states. Even if you search other sites, you probably will be sent here.

You can search for campgrounds by location and available dates, but you will need to create an account to book a site. They do charge a small reservation fee of less than $10 depending on the park, but state park rates are so inexpensive it’s still a good deal. The site offers trip tracking details, but it does not provide park reviews or rankings.

Tip: You can book state parks 11 months in advance.

The app is free and available for both iOS and Android.

AllStays App/AllStays Pro
Campground Reservations, Services and Road Information

AllStays offers two great choices, an app for iPhones or the Pro version designed for computers but accessible by Androids, iPhones or tablets.

This great app was designed by an RVer and helps you find campsites and RV services and allows you to download information so you can search even if you don’t have internet access. It includes overnight parking for Walmart, Sams Club, Costco, Elk & Moose Lodges, casinos and more.

The app offers free updates and no ads for a one-time price of only $9.99. Several great features include road conditions and incline information, rest stops and dump station locations. With a comprehensive RV information database that is updated every few weeks, I can understand why it’s so popular.

Note that the AllStays app DOES NOT include AllStays Pro.

You can access the AllStays website for free on any web browser, but they also offer an upgraded paid version. The AllStays Pro version is an annual subscription-based service for $29.95 per year and it has a lot more information than the app version.

The AllStays Pro version has more information, is faster, and has no ads, full-screen maps, and more filters and its updated almost daily. It can also be accessed from Android as well as Apple devices.

3 Overnight and Dry Camping Locations

Sometimes when we are traveling through to another destination, we just need a place to stop overnight and don’t need the facilities of a campground for power, water or pump-outs. This is also called dry camping or boondocking. Our onboard generator and water tanks make our Class A RV self-sufficient so we can dry camp for a night or two pretty easily. Here are some places that you can dry camping during your travels.

Harvest Hosts
Overnight Dry Camping

Harvest Hosts is an online directory of Hosts that allows free overnight RV parking. Host locations include over 1300 Wineries, Breweries, Farms and Attractions throughout the US and Canada. It’s a great way to meet interesting people and learn through wine tastings, brewery and farm tours, museums and attractions!

You must purchase a membership in the Harvest Host program and you must be fully self-contained.

Once you are a member, you can download the free app and book through the app.

Here’s a video of what some of the locations look like:

https://youtu.be/ZPI73EqlXjQ

Membership is only $79 per year and now they even have a plan that adds over 400 golf courses for only $40 more for a total of $119/year! If you want to save 20% off of membership, click below to visit the Harvest Host website.

The app is free and available for both iOS and Android.

Price: Free (the app is free but $79 membership is required)
Rating: 4.8/5, 3.3K
Get it: iTunes or Google Play

RV Parky
Overnight Dry Camping

Several businesses including casinos, Cracker Barrel, Camping World and even fraternal lodges allow overnight parking. The RV Parky app lists those that do.

Just like any other RV friendly place, you should contact the site manager to confirm that overnight parking is still allowed.

Tip: I’ve also listed this app under the Navigation section since they also offer low bridge clearance warnings.

The app is free and available for both iOS and Android.

Price: Free
Rating: 4.4/5, 5.8K
Get it: iTunes or Google Play

Walmart

Some Walmarts allow overnight parking and two different developers created apps (one for iOS and one for Android) to help you find locations that allow overnight parking.

AllStays created an iOS app for Walmart.

Price: $2.99
Rating: 4.2/5, 113
Get it: iTunes

Seeing a need for an Android app, another developer created this free one called OverNight Parking Finder RVSleepy:

Price: Free
Rating: 4.2/5, 3.3K
Get it: Google Play

We have not used either of these ourselves, so I cannot verify whether they are kept current. You should always contact the store manager and ask if overnight parking is permitted as city regulations change frequently.

Smartphone Link Garmin
Navigation

We have the Garmin 770 GPS that we use for navigation. It can be customized to enter your RV dimensions and we have been quite happy with it. If you use the Smartphone link you can get live traffic, weather and address sharing.

The app is free and available for both iOS and Android, but you will need to purchase a Garmin GPS System that is compatible with the app.

You can click the link below to go to Amazon to learn more about the Garmin and purchase it:

Rating: 3.0/5, 13K

RV Parky
Navigation with Low Bridge Warnings

This free RV app was built by a full-time RVer and contains parks, RV friendly stores, rest areas, and fuel stops.

It allows you to enter your RV dimensions and provides low bridge clearance warnings and will calculate trip fuel costs based on the average fuel price and your RV mpg. Definitely worth the price- FREE!

The app is free and available for both iOS and Android.

Copilot GPS for RV
Navigation

The RV specific version offers voice-guided offline navigation, route planning, and traffic. You can enter your vehicle dimensions, specify any road restrictions and customize routes. If you don’t have a GPS specifically for your RV, this is probably worth the price.

The app is available for both iOS and Android.

Price: $29.99
Rating: 4.0/5, 98K
Get it: iTunes or Google Play

Waze
Navigation

Waze is a navigation app that provides live real-time traffic data provided by users on those actual routes. It is not an RV specific app and does not allow you to enter your vehicle size information, but is definitely helpful to use in your tow vehicle.

The app is free and available for both iOS and Android.

Price: Free
Rating: 4.8/5, 2.1M
Get it: iTunes or Google Play

Google Maps
Navigation

There are a couple of important differences between Waze and Google Maps and we recommend getting both apps.

One major difference is that Waze requires an active internet connection, but Google Maps can work when you are offline if you download the directions when you have access to the internet.

Another is that Google Maps uses a lot less of your data compared to Waze. While Waze is live real-time data provided by users, often the routes will take you through residential neighborhoods which can wind up taking longer.

Note that neither Waze nor Google Maps are RV specific navigation apps and as such do not allow you to enter your vehicle size information, but they’re definitely helpful to have and use in your tow vehicle.

The app is free and available for both iOS and Android.

Rating: 4.7/5, 2.8M

iExit Interstate Exit Guide
Navigation

Using your device location, it shows a summary of what services are available at the upcoming exits. It only works in the United States on major exit-based highways. It’s a free app and does not offer the option to specify your vehicle size, so make sure you don’t take an exit that cannot accommodate your size RV. There is an iExit Trucks app that shows diesel prices, weigh scales and rest stations.

The app is free and available for both iOS and Android.

Price: Free
Rating: 4.8/5, 2.1M
Get it: iTunes or Google Play

Tollsmart
Navigation

There are toll roads in most states, and many toll facilities no longer accept cash. There are no toll transponders that work in all states. This app identifies which transponders are accepted at each facility and can save you service fees and toll violations. The app is free for cars, but you need to upgrade to a monthly subscription for RVs. You can unsubscribe at any time, so when you finish your trip just unsubscribe until your next road trip.

The app is available for both iOS and Android.

Price: $2.99/ month
Rating: 2.7/5
Get it: iTunes or Google Play

RV Life Network
Route Planning and Campground Information

This is a network of sites that includes Campground Reviews, RV Trip Wizard (for route planning), IRV2 (advice from RV owners), and RV news. They say they can save users hundreds of dollars by turning their smartphone or iPad into an RV GPS and that their app works offline by downloading maps. They also say that they can route you around low clearance bridges or unsafe roads, which would be definitely worth purchasing the paid version.

We have not subscribed to their paid service since we have a Garmin 770 RV GPS.

They have both a free and a paid version, but the travel planning is only available with the premium service.

The app is available for both iOS and Android.

Price: Free or $59.99/year
Rating: 4.5/5, 2.5K
Get it: iTunes or Google Play

Roadtrippers

If you want more features you can upgrade to the Plus plan and chose a monthly plan for $6.99 or an annual plan for $29.99.

The app is free and available for both iOS and Android.

3 RV Weather Apps

Dark Sky
Weather

Dark Sky is our favorite weather app because it is incredibly accurate, almost to the minute. It literally will tell you that it is going to start raining in the next 5 minutes and when it will stop, and we have found it to be pretty accurate.

It also comes with alerts letting you know when bad weather is heading our way. The radar animation shows the path of storms which can be very helpful when you are deciding whether to move your RV to a safer location.

The other feature we like is the Time Machine, which allows you to see weather predictions for the future based on seasonal averages. Great for trip planning purposes. It’s the number one weather app on iTunes!

The app is available for both iOS and Android.

Price: $3.99
Rating: 4.1/5, 35.6K
Get it: iTunes or Google Play

NOAA Weather Radar Live
Weather

Since our home base is in Florida, we have to pay close attention during hurricane season so this is why we have multiple weather apps. NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) provides accurate hurricane tracking and coastal flooding and storm alerts.

The app is available for both iOS and Android.

Price: Free
Rating: 4.4/5, 521.8K
Get it: iTunes or Google Play

Weather Underground
Weather

Weather Underground used to be one of our favorite apps since it is crowdsourced by over 250,000 weather enthusiasts reporting live weather data from their location. The newest update to the app has drawn a lot of criticism since many of the favorite features like being able to refine location has been removed.

It still has a free version and the developers are promising many new updates, so it’s still worth downloading. You can pay to upgrade to no ads, but we don’t bother.

The app is available for both iOS and Android.

Rating: 4.1/5, 35.6K

20 Extra Useful RV Apps

Alexa
Virtual Assistant

Our RV is our tiny home and the Amazon Echo (Alexa) virtual assistant plays a big role in making things convenient. We use it to make lists, play music, turn lights on and off, make phone calls and get information. We actually have 3 devices, 2 inside and one outside to control the outdoor TV, music, and lights.

If you are interested in adding Alexa to your RV, you can click on the link below to go to Amazon and purchase it:

You will need the Alexa app to control your enabled devices, listen to music and books and help you organize.

Available for both iOS and Android.

Price: Free
Rating: 4.6/5, 675.6K

AnyList
Grocery and Shopping List and Recipe Organizer

I have used AnyList for years and like it so much that I have the paid version. It’s simple to use and interfaces with Amazon Echo, so you can add items to your shopping list by telling Alexa to add them to whichever list you want them on.

The recipe organizer is fantastic and also easy to use. I really think one of the coolest features is the recipe import function. You can add all of your favorite recipes or find a recipe on the internet and just tell AnyList to import it and you get everything- ingredients, cooking steps, nutritional information (if provided) and even a picture of the completed dish!

Another great feature is how easy it is to add recipe ingredients to your shopping list. You just open a recipe and select the ingredients you need and it automatically adds them to your grocery list. You can then check them off of your list while you are shopping.

You can create multiple lists and organize them by store or occasion. It also has a meal planning calendar to help create shopping lists. We also use it for RV shopping and Home Depot lists.

Try the free version out and I’ll bet you will like it so much that you will purchase the paid version called AnyList Complete ($11.99/year) as my friends and family have done.

One last cool thing is that you can share across family members, so as items are added or removed, the list changes automatically to show up on all devices.

The basic app is free and available for both iOS and Android.

Weigh My Truck
Tire Safety

It’s important to know the weight of your RV for safety purposes so you don’t overload your tires. There are two free apps that make it so easy and fast and you don’t even have to get out of your RV to do it!

You will need to do 3 simple steps first, then you can weigh anytime, quickly and easily and get your RV weight sent directly to your email!

  1. Go to the website WeighMyTruck and register an account. You will need to provide an email address where you want your electronic weight tickets to go to and set up a payment method with a credit card or PayPal.

  2. Download the free Weigh My Truck app from either iTunes or Google Play below and login. You only have to login one time to sync the app to your account.

  3. Download the free CAT Scale Locator app below. This app makes it easy to find CAT Scale locations based on your GPS location or a simple search.

That’s it for the setup!

To actually weigh your RV, you will need to locate the CAT Scale you want to use (using the CAT Scale app you downloaded in Step 3 above) drive onto the scale and open the Weigh My Truck app you downloaded in Step 2. The app should ask you to confirm the CAT Scale location, or if there are multiple scales where you are you may be asked to enter the CAT Scale number on the intercom sign.

You will be asked to confirm your vehicle identification (which you already set up when you registered an account in Step 1).

Check your mobile device and in just a minute or two you will receive your vehicle weight on your screen, and that’s it you are done! You never even have to leave your RV and a PDF copy of your weigh ticket will be emailed to you.

Here’s a video that shows how easy it is:

Don’t forget to get both apps and register an account at WeighMyTruck first!

RV Trip Diary

Keeping a travel diary is fun and a great way to save memories, but I hate the idea of carrying more notebooks so I found this cool app. This new journal app lets you record information about RV campgrounds you’ve been to including amenities and photos and store it all online.

It’s a good way to keep track of your travels, and while it’s still pretty new it’s getting great reviews.

State Lines
State Laws and Regulations

This is a cool app designed by long-time RVers that covers state laws and regulations since they often change as you cross state lines. According to their website some of the state-specific information they provide are:

  • What restraints for my kids are required in this state?
  • Is the sales tax lower over the next state line?
  • Is the fuel tax cheaper here?
  • Can I buy beer in the grocery stores?
  • Can I overnight in rest areas?
  • Is smoking allowed in restaurants?
  • Are radar detectors legal?
  • Can I make a right turn on red?
  • Are helmets & eye protection required on motorcycles?

It’s also handy to have if we need to drop friends off at the airport and don’t want to unhook our vehicle. It lets us get back on the road fast.
